About GRRNT

Golden Retriever Rescue of North Texas (GRRNT) was incorporated in 1997 with a mission to rescue, care for, and place in permanent loving homes, Golden Retrievers in need in the North Texas area and to educate the general public about responsible pet ownership as well as the special qualities of the Golden Retriever breed. We focus on cities in North Texas and the Dallas - Fort Worth Metroplex (DFW) including Dallas, Fort Worth, FT Worth, Allen, Arlington, Burleson, Carrollton, Cleburne, Colleyville, Denton, DeSoto, Flower Mound, Garland, Grapevine, Irving, Lewisville, McKinney, Mesquite, Plano, Richardson, Benbrook, Mansfield, Keller, Southlake, North Richland Hills, Forest Hill, Terrell, Waxahachie, Ennis, and others.

We are an all-volunteer rescue organization, with NO paid employees. We do not own nor operate a shelter or kennel space and instead place all of our dogs in loving, volunteer foster homes until the dogs are adopted. Foster families care for the dogs of as if it were their own dog for the period of time it takes to find a permanent home. Many of these dogs have been abused, abandoned, or neglected. Our foster Families provide their foster dog with quality dog food, toys, basic training, stability, and, most of all, love. The love they provide is a large part of the therapy the dog needs in order to adapt successfully to his or her new forever home. GRRNT covers all medical expenses for the foster dog. 

More than 90% of our total budget goes directly to the dogs for veterinary expenses. The hard work and countless hours of our volunteers enable the growing success GRRNT has experienced since 1997.

Historical Information

In December 1996, a small group of dedicated volunteers decided to create a new rescue group that would be an independent organization not affiliated with Golden Retriever Club of America. Golden Retriever Rescue of North Texas (GRRNT) would:

• Have regular changes in officers and directors, through open meetings and democratic votes of members.

• Maintain records open for inspection by any and all members.

• Keep dogs in foster homes rather than kennels while awaiting adoption.

• Have no set policy requiring euthanasia for dogs reported to have been aggressive with humans, without further evaluation/investigation.

In July 1997, GRRNT was incorporated and took in seven dogs during the course of the year. In May 1998, the organization was recognized by the IRS as a tax-exempt charitable organization, as defined in IRS Regulation 501(c)(3).

Our membership has grown over the years from the initial 15 in 1998 to over 100 today. We are very fortunate to have numerous veterinarians, from around the North Texas area, support our efforts by offering GRRNT discounts for the care of our rescue dogs.

Affiliations with Other Rescue Groups

Over time, we have found the differences between our group and other area rescue groups have led toward a broader spectrum of assistance to needy Goldens in North Texas. Additionally, we have built a warm and reciprocal working relationship with other rescue groups, including Golden rescue organizations. GRRNT often collaborates with various rescue groups in the area to reach a greater number of dogs than we could as a single organization.

The numbers of dogs we assist increased almost each and every year with over 3,000 Goldens adopted to date.

There is no GRRNT without Dedicated VolunteerS

GRRNT is an all-volunteer organization, with NO paid employees. Most necessary operational expenses, such as printing promotional materials, have been donated thanks to the tireless effort of our committed volunteers and sponsors. While in foster care, foster families generally donate food for the dogs so the organization does not incur this expense. The organization does, however, pay for medical expenses the dogs incur while in foster care. Therefore, more than 90% of our total expense goes directly to the dogs for veterinary expenses. The hard work and countless hours of our volunteers enable the growing success GRRNT has experienced since 1997.
