Sabre was picked up as a stray by local animal control. He is just settling into his foster home and we will know more about him soon.
PROFILE
Sabre is a sweet boy who really wants to trust the kind people who are caring for him. He came to his foster home unsure and fearful of his new environment and his foster family. In just a few days he has started to trust more, and now he will approach both of his foster parents for attention, but it’s still on his terms. If he thinks you are coming towards him he will move away. He wants to trust, and when he is brave he is so very sweet.
He has tried to dart through doorways and gates, so his foster parents are watching closely to make sure he doesn’t slip out. He has decided he does not like to be left outside, however. He has discovered a joy in beds, and every night he rolls and tries to burrow in his, and he takes great pleasure in toys. He tosses and shakes them, and has torn a few up for the fun of it. Since his is still learning to trust people we don’t think a home with active, busy children would work for Sabre, but he must have a friendly dog in the house. He very much watches what the other dogs do and follows their lead. His foster family does not have cats, so we don't know how Sabre would be with cats. We think it will help him gain confidence to go through some obedience classes, with the added bonus of bonding with his family through training.
Sabre is concerned about taking treats from you sometimes, but other times he will be brave and accept it from you. He may have been chased away from food bowls before because he grabs a bite and then darts away. It’s going to be a work in progress for him to learn he gets his own bowl of food, and can relax and eat his whole meal without interruption.
Sabre needs a family that will be very patient with him, and definitely needs another confident dog in his forever home. He is already making progress so we are very encouraged and excited to see him continue to flourish.
