GRRNT ONLY ADOPTS TO HOMES IN THE DALLAS/FORT WORTH AREA. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Your FIRST STEP is to submit an adoption application here: Adoption Application

3/16/2022 Our elder stateman Mr. Bix is joining our Permanent Foster program. He will have a loving foster home for the remainder of his days, and be monitored and taken care of by GRRNT vets.

Bix was originally an owner surrender to GRRNT in 2019, and happily adopted out. Sadly, he was returned to GRRNT recently due to no fault of his own. He is now an elder statesman at 13 years old, and GRRNT has determined it is in his best interests to become a permanent foster. We are looking for a loving retirement home for Bix, with a family who understands the true treasure of a senior Golden, and will love him and care for him until he crosses the bridge. GRRNT will pay for all Bix’s vet care for the remainder of his life, and be there to support the foster family with any of his needs. If you know what a gift an older Golden really is, and how much joy they bring, and would like to give Bix his final place to call home, please contact GRRNT at adopt@goldenretrievers.org, and we will be happy to tell you all about his current needs, and what a sweet boy he is.

Bix is such a sweet old soul! Bix had a rough start in life, and was neglected by his original owners. He was taken in by GRRNT in 2019, and nursed back to health. He was adopted, but his adopters are moving out of the country and Bix was returned to GRRNT.

Bix is now 13 1/2 years old. He is a very good boy. He is easy-going and gets along well with other dogs. He is completely house trained — he practically potties on command when you take him outside. He hasn’t had any accidents, and will pace around you to let you know when he wants to go out. He is an enthusiastic eater, and happily takes treats from your hand. Bix is perfect on walks— he stays right beside you and doesn’t pull. His strolls are short, slow and leisurely. Bix LOVES to be brushed — he is happy to have the attention, and doesn’t want it to end. Bix sleeps where he likes — rotating between dog beds, floor and rugs. He has the run of the house. He hasn’t tried to go up the stairs. He can be left loose in the house when family isn’t home.

Because of years of untreated ear infections, Bix has significant hearing loss. He is currently on medication for his ears. Typical of a Golden Oldie, he has some arthritis and stiff joints and is starting a supplement for those. He gets around well for his age, and stands from sitting or lying down without assistance. He has allergies, and some sensitive spots on his paws, and is taking Prednisone and Benadryl for those.

Because of his age, hearing loss, and ear and allergy issues, Bix will be a Permanent Foster — living with a permanent foster family, with GRRNT covering all of his medical expenses. Bix is the definition of contentment. He is not demanding or high-maintenance. He just wants a comfortable environment where he can be cared for and enjoy his senior years.
