Bjorn was turned over to a local animal shelter by his original owners. His is a big, boisterous young dog, but also loves attention and wants to play.

Bjorn is a sweet dog with a friendly disposition, and he clearly wants companionship. He is very playful, and will happily play for a long time. He has tons of energy, and enjoys spending lots of time in the backyard playing ball. He is pretty good about bringing the ball back to throw again. After a time, he would get distracted, but using treats to get him in the habit of always returning the ball is effective. He also liked playing tug with the rope and running after it when it was thrown for him. He is very good with walks on the leash; he does not pull or try to run. He will walk at a nice steady pace. He does need a little training to learn to say on one side, as he likes to move from side to side a lot. He wants to be right where you are, so he is not a fan of being crated away from you or having a door between you and him, and he will bark. He is very motivated by treats and that will help with training.

Bjorn is quite affectionate when he is relaxed. In the evenings, after lots of running and play, he enjoys being up on the couch in your lap. Not easy, as he's a big dog and doesn't quite know how to properly position himself, but he would rest there quietly and just enjoy being petted. He is also very contented with bones and treat-filled kongs, since he is so food motivated.

Bjorn does experience seizures, and our vet is working on his medication plan to control them. They were occurring every few days, but he has just started medication a little over a week ago, and the seizures have already decreased in frequency. A week apart rather than days. We expect with the right medication combination they will be months apart. He does have a few habits that will need to be worked on, counter surfing, trash can diving, some digging in the yard. We think he just didn’t get the house manners he needed as a puppy.

Bjorn is looking for his forever home with someone who can give him the training he needs, and help him with his medical condition. He is a great big, sweet bear, and just needs to find someone to love him.
