MARGIE

Meet Margie, an 8-year old Golden starting a new chapter in her life.  She is an owner surrender.   Margie has settled in quite well to her foster home.  At first, we weren’t sure if she was potty trained or not, but so far, she is 100% accident free.  She’ll come up and give you a little nudge on the hand when she wants outside.  For now, that’s about all the training she has had.  She doesn’t seem to know simple commands, but we’re beginning to work on that.  She is smart, always wants to please, so training might be fairly easy.  She does have a stubborn streak though.  If she decides she does not want to do something, then all 77 lbs. of her will be glued to the floor and she won’t budge until she’s ready!

Margie is not food motivated at all.  We think in her other life, she was simply outside in a kennel with maybe a dog run along with others like her. There have been many changes for Margie in a few short weeks and lots to take in.

Our family are patio sitters and Margie loves to be outside with us as we work in our yard and relax on the patio.  She does not play well yet; it is a new concept for her we think.  She has discovered our neighbor dogs on either side of us and she will greet them by sniffing the fences.  She is discovering she can run the fence with the neighbor dogs, but two trips up and back are about her limit right now.

Margie loves to walk and she has her routine down.  She’s not a leash puller, unless she sees a cat.  She still needs to learn to walk beside us and not wander from left to right.  We’re learning!  She likes car rides but needs help getting into the car.  Once in, she settles in nicely and likes to look out the window or take a nap.

Margie is sweet, loving and friendly.  She was not comfortable meeting a few new dogs at another volunteer’s home, and we think she will be happiest as the only dog.  We don’t know how she does with children, but since she is 8 she may appreciate a calmer home that one with active kids.

If you are looking for a sweet and chill older Golden, Margie is your girl!
