Rocky was turned into a shelter when his owner became to ill to take care of him. He has some health issues that GRRNT will be addressing before he is ready for adoption. He is a sweet boy, good with other dogs, but not good with cats.

PROFILE

Rocky is a wonderful, gentle giant golden.  He is a 9 year old golden sweetie. I could not brag on a foster as much as him. He does nothing wrong, has no bad habits, he is house trained, waits at the doorway, does not jump or counter surf.  He is not interested in getting on the furniture or on the bed, which he is welcome on.  He is very content laying on the dog beds.

He loves to take short walks and naps.  He is great and I mean GREAT on the leash, no pulling, walks right beside you.  He has been out in the front yard of previous foster dad and just stayed close by (we have not tested that yet), had no inclination to run off smelling or chasing anything. He has shared his foster home with several other Goldens, and he gets along great with all of them.

The only thing I can say is a silly thing, he wants to sleep on his foster sibling’s dog bed, and if you get her another bed, then he wants to sleep on that one.  He did show too much intense interest in the office cats at the vet clinic, so he will need a home without cats.

He is always happy to see us and loves to reach out and shake hands.   He is going to make some family a wonderful fur-baby.

UPDATE

3/11/2020 We are heartbroken today as we mourn the loss of Permanent Foster Rocky, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge this week in the loving arms of his foster family. He was fighting two types of cancer and did so well for awhile, but then started going downhill fast. He told us it was time for him to meet some old friends at the Bridge. Rocky brought joy to everyone he met and will be greatly missed by his foster family, his oncologist and all of us at GRRNT. God speed, sweet boy; you were all heart.

8/10/2019 During surgery to remove the lumps and bumps, a new mass was discovered on the roof of Rocky’s mouth. This was not previously detected. The mass was sent off for biopsy, but it is almost certainly cancer. Rocky has been placed in our permanent foster program, and will stay with a GRRNT foster for the remainder of his life. GRRNT will make sure his medical needs are met, and his foster family will provide him lots of love and attention.

8/8/2019 Rocky will have some lumps and bumps removed today, and after he recovers from surgery he will start chemo treatment for the cancer.

6/25/2019 Rocky has been diagnosed with cancer. He will be receiving some additional testing to determine treatment options. We hope to have a positive prognosis for him soon.
