Miss Victoria loves to be pet and is a true Golden as she never lets you leave a room alone. She is very loving and good natured and needs a home where she can get lots of attention and have her own person. She loves to just stand by you while you constantly pet her. Which leads us to the only bad (if you want to call it bad) habit her foster has noticed so far, she'll nose flip your hand to get you to pet her some more. She has a mind of her own and loves to go in the car. She doesn't show a lot of interest in toys but has chewed on a bone.

Victoria would be fine as an only dog and she is good with other dogs but does not need their company. There were no problems at all introducing her to her foster's herd of three (3). Instant acceptance was had on all sides.

Victoria is a very sweet girl who has Cushing's Disease. This causes a stress response throughout her body. She will always have to have her medication but she is responding well and getting better every day. She came to GRRNT with several issues but she is improving every day.

Her foster found out that she loves swimming. In fact she will drag the pool cleaner out of the pool as it is in her way. She also objected to the wall scrubber and would fetch and drag it out of the pool. This is good as we can get in some water therapy to help strengthen her legs which have some muscle loss due to the disease.

Victoria is totally housebroken and has learned to use the doggie door. She has a little trouble as we haven't built up the muscles yet, but she makes it work. In time, Victoria will gain her strength, get her coat back and be a wonderful companion.

Our sweet Golden Girl Victoria crossed the Rainbow Bridge today. "Queen" Victoria came to us in June of 2014 at 9 years of age. She was diagnosed with Cushing's Disease and placed into the GRRNT Permanent Foster Program in March 2015. She lived a wonderful life in her loving foster home, wanting nothing more than to have her soft fur stroked and sweet words whispered in her ears. In her last year, she knew true love. We will miss this sweet girl tremendously.

Victoria has been on a long road to recovery with so many helpers! It is absolutely paying off. Since on the correct medication for Cushing’s, her fur is back. Her belly, which was distended and swollen, is nearly normal-sized. Best of all…she is happy and loving being a dog! She smiles, runs, wants scratches and love all day like a true Golden. She spends as much time as possible in the water. Catching a stick is the best! She is part antelope, too. Jump! Jump! Jump! We love taking care of this smart girl!

Due to Victoria’s health issues GRRNT has decided to make Victoria part of our Permanent Foster Program. We are looking for a home that would like to provide a permanent foster home for Victoria. If you have met her at past Meet and Greets and fell in love, please contact us.

The antibiotics have resolved the swelling in Victoria’s leg and surgery was done to remove the pendulous callous this past Thursday, 01/29/2015. She is spending a few days at the vet to monitor her recovery and make sure the surgery site heals well. Then, she'll be back in her foster home getting ready for the next Meet & Greet.

Victoria has developed an infection in the pendulous growth on her right elbow. She is on antibiotics and our vet will schedule surgery to remove the growth once the infection is under control.

Victoria was sad to see that Santa didn't bring her a new family for Christmas and is hoping the New Year brings her a new chance at finding a forever home. Her tail has healed up nicely following her surgery and now has two tufts of hair growing on it. It still wags a lot but now it is much shorter and doesn't get hurt. Also, and we are so very excited to report this, her coat is coming in thicker and is starting to develop some body. She still has some bare spots but even they are getting better.

She is now sleeping on a dog bed as her body temperature has come down and she is very comfortable. She is feeling so good that she will lay on the rug on her back and just wiggle back and forth scratching her back! It is so funny to see.

Amongst other things, we continue to monitor the callous on her non-surgery elbow as it seems to bother her from time to time and we want to make sure it doesn't lead to a larger issue.

Volunteer Notes: I had the pleasure to meet Ms. Victoria at the Meet and Greet today and she is the sweetest dog I've come across in a long while. First, she is healing up so well and is looking so much better. Talking with her foster it is obvious that Victoria is a people dog. She is a classic Golden; a leaner and shadow that isn't afraid to give your hand a bump if you stop petting her. She doesn't seem to care about other dogs and just wants a person who'll help her make up for all the bad stuff that has happened to her over her life. She loves to ride in the car and we're told she picked up a toy for the first time the Friday before the Meet and Greet. We're expecting this lady to continue developing into a wonderful dog.

Victoria had surgery recently to remove the pendulous callous on one leg. The callous on the other leg has reduced in size enough it won't require surgery. She also had a case of "happy tail", which is where a dog wags their tail so hard they injure it against hard surfaces. Since Victoria's fur on her tail is thin there was little protection, and she has been reinjuring the tail despite all her foster mom's efforts to bandage it. There is treatment for this, but it requires amputating a portion of the tail. So Victoria now has a cute short tail that will grow a pretty set of feathers, and she won't have any more injuries to her tail. Victoria also had some lumps and bumps removed to make sure they are nothing to be concerned about and the test results will be back in a about a week.

Her Cushing's Disease is being well controlled with medication, and Victoria is a happy, bouncy girl. Once she recovers from these surgeries, we hope to start showing her off at our Meet and Greets in November and December.

August 14, 2014

Victoria had her check-up with the vet last week. The vet needed to adjust her Cushing's medication to better control the levels. The bloating due to her enlarged liver has reduced about 2 inches. Right now she is too thin and her foster is trying to add a third meal to the schedule, but the medications can make her tummy upset, so it is a little touch and go adding more food to her diet. But, she is feeling pretty good. Nice and bouncy, still loves swimming, and wants to be pet a lot. Victoria really has a lovely, sweet personality. GRRNT is dedicated to improving her health. We know when she is well and stable that she will make someone a wonderful companion. Check her out sporting her "dog-legs" sleeves in one of the pictures above.

August 6, 2014

Victoria has been wearing "Dog Legs", neoprene sleeves, to protect her elbow growths. The sleeves cushion her elbows when she lays down and prevent her from licking them, so her elbows are no longer raw. The vet is continuing to monitor the medication level for Victoria's Cushing's Disease. Once she is stabilized on the medication, she will need surgery to remove the elbow growths. Victoria is enjoying swimming and she and her foster family hosted a puppy pool party recently for a whole pack of Goldens.

June 14, 2014

Victoria was a stray that came to GRRNT in very rough medical condition. She has over all coat loss and growths on her elbows that are raw. She exhibited several troubling symptoms and her initial blood work showed lots of levels that were off which led the GRRNT vet to run additional tests. Sweet Victoria has been diagnosed with Cushing's disease (hyperadrenocorticism). She has been started on medication that should improve her over all condition. Victoria will be with GRRNT for awhile so we can monitor her progress and our vets can continue treatment.
