Foster

Foster homes for our rescued Golden Retrievers is something our group will always need. We do not have kennel space. All of our dogs are placed with loving families until they are adopted. The more foster homes we have, the more Goldens we can assist. Fostering entails assuming responsibility for the care of a dog, as if it were your own, for the period of time it takes to find a permanent home. Many of these dogs have been abused, abandoned, or neglected. As a foster family you will be asked to provide your foster dog with quality dog food, toys, basic training, stability, and, most of all, love. The love you provide is a large part of the therapy the dog needs in order to adapt successfully to his or her new forever home. Golden Retriever Rescue of North Texas covers all medical expenses for the foster dog. All vet visits must be pre-approved and the dog must be taken to a participating vet. In most cases, any medical issues will have been resolved before you receive the dog. Some foster families may assist with special needs dogs; for example those recovering from heartworm treatment, hip dysplasia surgery, or other extensive medical conditions. This kind of care requires time and dedication to the dog so it isn't for everyone. However, it can be a very rewarding service and is worth considering if circumstances permit.

Pet Sitter

GRRNT offers dog-sitting services for previous adopters and GRRNT members. For a small fee, the dog(s) will stay with a volunteer at the volunteer's home while their owner is away, giving the owner the piece of mind that the dog is getting plenty of TLC and individual attention. GRRNT petsitters are contacted on an as-needed basis, so it provides considerable schedule flexibility. Owners are required to bring the dog's food, medications, etc.

Intake Transport

GRRNT takes dogs in from shelters, as owner releases, and as strays. Once the Operations Team has decided to take a dog, a volunteer will be sent to retrieve the dog from its location. While GRRNT primarily serves the Metroplex, we will occasionally take a dog from greater distances. Volunteers can volunteer for either long or short distances, or both. Once the dog is picked up, it will be taken to a GRRNT vet assigned by the Operations Team. Note that, as with all transport jobs, the volunteer will be using their own vehicle and should be aware that many dogs we take in are in bad shape and may be dirty or ill and measures should be taken to protect the vehicle surfaces. Transports are almost always done between 8 AM and 6 PM on weekdays, when shelters are open.

Voicemail Return

GRRNT maintains a voicemail line where people can leave messages for the rescue. Typical calls include calls from owners needing to surrender their Golden, Good Samaritans and shelters calling to have us take a found Golden, potential adopters inquiring about the status of their application, and owners calling to report a lost Golden. A voicemail return volunteer is responsible for returning these calls, gathering the necessary information, and forwarding it to the appropriate person or people within GRRNT. Volunteers work this job in one week increments.
